Recurring lunar observance

Ekadashi

An observance associated with the eleventh tithi in each lunar fortnight and devotion to Vishnu.

Meaning and practice

Ekadashi can be a day for prayer, reflection and a chosen family fasting practice. The named Ekadashis have traditional stories and regional associations. The name of a tithi does not determine a universal fasting prescription for every person.

Why parana needs its own rule

Smarta and Vaishnava observance decisions can differ. Sunrise overlap, special cases and the breaking-fast interval require explicit rules. Until those rules and local transitions are reviewed, this page intentionally provides no fasting-date or parana recommendation.

Date and puja timings are awaiting approved festival rules. This guide does not provide an occurrence date. Editorial review pending.
