Makar Sankranti
A solar-calendar observance connected with the Sun’s entry into sidereal Makara.
A solar marker
Unlike a festival chosen through lunar tithi alone, Makar Sankranti is linked to a sidereal solar ingress. Harvest celebrations and regional customs accompany the season. Similar seasonal celebrations should still be described under their own names and conventions.
Ingress and ritual window
The ingress instant depends on the selected sidereal definition. Turning that instant into an observance date or punya kala also needs a reviewed calendar rule. An astronomical position is useful evidence, but does not on its own certify a ritual interval.
Date and puja timings are awaiting approved festival rules. This guide does not provide an occurrence date. Editorial review pending.
